Shildon Railway Cricket Club has endured a frustrating start to the 2014 season with the weather causing the cancellation of three games and more disappointingly, two games having to be forfeited when, first the Under 11s and then the Under 18s could not muster enough players to fulfil fixtures at Bishop Auckland.
“The weather prevented us from holding some of our outdoor junior practice sessions when we had hoped to have attracted some new youngsters to the fold. We are now really anxious to attract more juniors to play in our Under 11s, 13s, 15s and 18s but are at a loss as to what more we can do. We know that several youngsters intend to play in the weeks ahead but currently they are committed to football, rugby and boxing,” said a club spokesman.
This weekend sees the 1st XI at Murton, with the 2nd XI at home in the reverse fixture. On Monday the Under 15s entertain Evenwood and on Tuesday the Under 18s are also at home, to Tudhoe.
