Shildon’s Middle Distance, Under 11s and Sprint Group athletes were competing in the Gateshead Minors meeting on July 6th.
Year 3 athlete Aiden Barrass took first position in the 50mtr sprint, 400mtrs and Howler throw and in the Standing Long Jump Sam Tall leapt to victory landing in 1st position.
Year 5 athletes Thomas Wraith, Joshua Wraith, Leighton Ince and Kayleigh Readman ran the 75mtrs, 600mtrs, threw the Howler and jumped in the Long Jump. Good times and distances were recorded by all with Kayleigh securing 2nd Position in the Long Jump. Adam Hanby also competed in the 75mtrs, 600mtrs and Howler Throw.
Year 6 girls Leah Rutherford and Chloe Fairclough competed in the 75mtrs and Long Jump with Leah securing 3rd position in the Jump whilst Chloe managed a PB in the 75mtrs. Chloe also ran in the 600mtrs but was a couple of seconds under par.
At the English Schools event held in Birmingham on the 11th & 12th July, Lizzie Cramb and Amy Etherington both represented Durham in the 800mtrs. Lizzie Cramb ran in the Junior Girls category finishing in the excellent time of 2.21.20. Amy Etherington, who also coaches in the middle distance group at the club ran in the Senior Girls race and ran well in her heat with a time of 2.20.51.
At the Hackworth Parkrun on July 12th Ryan Watson ran well finishing 4th overall in a time 20:04 and first in his age category.
Chloe Fairclough revisited Sedgefield Park run in an attempt to reclaim her age group course record and did just that by taking the new Under 11 female record down to 21.34 from 22.43. David Johnston competed in Gateshead 10k on July 13th in a time of 45.39. Shildon’s Senior Group competed in the 22 hour Relay for Life at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow in order to raise money for cancer research.
A great weekend was had at Warwick University on the 12th & 13th of this month with Team North East taking the honours for the first time in the English Federation of Disability Sports National Junior Athletics Championship. Some fantastic examples of courage and team spirit with Shildon’s Erica Dixon (U16) picking up Gold in the 1500m, Silver in the 400m and Silver in the 200m.
