An update from the Shildon Neighbourhood Policing Team:
13 August: We received multiple reports of burglaries and attempted burglaries throughout the night. We also saw the footage that was circulating on social media. Thanks to swift action by our officers, a male suspect was arrested and taken into custody within one hour of the initial report. Our investigation is ongoing, and we continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
25 August: We have seen a noticeable increase in youth-related anti-social behaviour in Shildon over the past month. Incidents have included shouting and swearing at members of the public and throwing objects at vehicles. In response, four individuals have been stopped and returned home, where they received strong words of advice.
Let us be clear: anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Shildon. Anyone involved will be dealt with accordingly.
We have also increased our foot patrols during the evenings, and over this past weekend, our officers walked more than ten miles to provide visible reassurance and deter further incidents.
Other recent incidents include: a motorist reported for driving without insurance following an incident of anti-social driving;
Two vehicles failed to stop for police. Unfortunately, due to limited tactical resources, the pursuits were safely aborted;
Two people have been stopped and searched under S23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. This was a result of community information in regards to persons drug dealing. Keep this information coming and we will act on this!
Finally, a reminder to the community: If you don’t report it, we can’t deal with it. Please continue to contact us with any concerns — your information is vital.
Thank you for your continued support.
