A team of three young athletes represented Spectrum Roller Skating Club at The Crystal Tulip Competition held in Moerkapelle, The Netherlands in early May.
After a break of five years, the Crystal Tulip Competition was back on the International World Skate Europe calendar this year and with no fewer than 134 individual athletes and four couples, the event was certainly an international success!
A team of 34 athletes were flying the flag for GB, including Liam Stevens-Bell, Ella Hutchinson and Lucy Owen from Spectrum Roller Skating Club which is based at Shildon’s Sunnydale Leisure Centre.
In Espoir Couples Liam and Ella were awarded first place and achieved a new PB Rollart score of 29.80
Liam also competed in Mini Men Solo Dance and gained bronze medal and a new PB Rollart score of 30.23.
Ella took part in Espoir Ladies Solo Dance and achieved 14th position, with a new PB Rollart score of 34.15.
Lucy Owen, despite an injury, participated in Cadet Ladies Solo Dance and completed both programs coming 21st place with a new PB Rollart score of 33.97.
The event ended with a gala and together the participants turned the competition into a true roller skating party.
“It was a honour and privilege for our couple Liam and Ella to be invited to showcase their freedance performance as part of the gala with all the event winners,” said head coach, Tracy Stevens. “Sport, sportsmanship and friendship were the key to a fantastic event, and what an amazing experience for everyone involved.
“Thank you to our sponsors YrTech, Compost Technology and EllaLeigh Book-Keeping, and thank you to everyone who donated on our JustGiving page.
