Shildon AFC’s unbeaten run in Northern League Division One was brought to a crashing halt with a 0-3 home loss to local rivals West Auckland Town on Saturday.

Shildon’s most successful manager of the modern era, Gary Forrest, returned to inflict the damage as his West Auckland side romped to victory against 10-man Shildon after Jack Vaulks was shown a straight red card in the 75th minute.

The visitors took the lead in the 42nd minute through Josh Scott, who would go on to complete his hat-trick with two further goals in stoppage time at the end of the match to emphatically end that sequence of 16 unbeaten games.

The Railwaymen remain four points behind leaders, Bishop Auckland, who themselves crashed out of the FA Vase on penalties at the hands of Second Division leaders, Blyth Town.

Shildon travel to Redcar next weekend before a huge top-two derby at Dean Street on Boxing Day.
