Money has been set aside from the new Bishop Auckland retail centre to support local businesses to take on apprentices.
Following the 40 jobs created by Home Bargains in April and the 40 to 60 jobs expected to be created by TK Maxx when it opens later this year, the Tindale Crescent development is continuing to contribute to the local economy. Some £48,000 is available to help local employers to expand their businesses and provide new employment opportunities for 16-24 year olds in the Bishop Auckland and Shildon areas. To date 18 employers have been helped to provide 22 apprenticeships, ranging from engineering to business administration and warehousing.
Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said, “It is wonderful that so many apprentices have already been taken on by local businesses as a first step into the world of work. There is still the opportunity for others to do the same and help boost the local economy.”
