Ferryhill’s Ambassadors for Community Change have been tasked with finding out the views of children in their community and to have dialogue with adults who can help them bring about meaningful and positive change as an ongoing process.
The Ambassadors work hard at being active, engaged and motivated so they are able to transform their community.
A notable example of this has been the removal of the old, faded banners at Ferryhill Station.
The 25-year-old banners, identified by the Ambassadors as eyesores, have finally been removed thanks to the 4 Together AAP’s perseverance in tracking down the banners’ ownership and organising their removal, which was funded via Cllr Quinn’s Neighbourhood budget.
Glenys from Approach Too said: “The Ambassadors work so hard and fight to make Ferryhill a better and safer place for everyone.
“From creating and rolling out community questionnaires like their Crime Survey which really added weight to get the successful Home Office Safer Streets funding application to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour, through to standing on the roadside collecting evidence of speeding motorists and thinking of new ideas to slow people down, all of which led to the Wood Lane Speed Awareness sign project.
“They have led campaigns to reduce litter, dog fouling, food waste as well as contributing to events such as Ferryhill’s Festival of Christmas Trees, Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea events, Pop up Cafes, WW1 Festival of Food Celebration, Happiness and Thank You Community initiatives, Art Exhibitions as well as the Ferryhill Story of our Lives Book.”
Glenys added: “It’s amazing how the Ambassadors’ hard work instigates the movement for changes that happen in our community, working in partnership with people like Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen, MPs, Ferryhill Town Council, local community groups and churches and the 4 Together Partnership identifying and addressing local issues”.
