A village residents group welcomed their new County Councillor to their monthly meeting at the Queen’s Head pub in Newfield.
Councillor Pete Molloy, who is one of two County Councillors that represents the village, attended the meeting of the Newfield Community Association to inform the residents of the status of the issues he has been dealing with in the village and to listen to what other issues the residents may have.
Newfield, along with Binchester, was moved into the Spennymoor Division from this year’s local elections as a result of last year’s boundary review of Durham County Council by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Molloy said: “It’s good to see residents coming together to take a keen interest in their village and they appreciated me attending their meeting to inform them of some issues I had addressed in the village since being re-elected, which ranged from having new litter bins installed at two bus stops to a repair to the footpath in their park, and of the upcoming two weeks diversion through the village in August as a result of planned resurfacing works on a section of Binchester Crag to Long Lane.
“I would like to thank the residents for making me feelwelcome at their meeting and I will do my very best to represent them.”
Cllr Molloy has been invited by a couple of Newfield residents to be shown around the village, which he has accepted and he has also contacted the Binchester Community Centre to attend one of their meetings to introduce himself to members of their community.
