This year will mark the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day – Victory in Europe Day, 8 May and Victory over Japan Day, 15 August.
The Royal British Legion Shildon Branch will be holding a service with optional communion, at St John’s Church on Sunday 4 May at 10am.
Veterans and organisations taking part are advised to meet at the gate entrance, opposite the library for 9.45am.
Andy Haines, Chairman of Royal British Legion Shildon Branch, said: “We warmly invite all members of the public to attend our VE ceremony as we come together to remember, reflect and honour the courage and sacrifices of those who served.
“This special event will include a floral wreath laying and readings to commemorate the end of World War II in Europe and to pay tribute to the bravery of a generation
“Let’s stand together to keep their legacy alive.
“All are welcome.
“We will remember them.”
