Shildon Railway Cricket Club 1st team lost ground in the title race when their North Yorks. & South Durham Division 2 game at Middlesbrough was cancelled due to the wet weather, reports John Brennan.
Unfortunately for the Railwaymen, both main rivals somehow managed to get their games played, despite rain covering wide areas of the north east. Shildon drop to third place, 14 points behind leaders Richmond, but with a game in hand, and 10 points adrift of second placed Barnard Castle.
Next Saturday, the team will expect to make up ground when bottom placed Stockton are the visitors to the Hackworth Road Ground.
The 2nd team’s game in the Darlington & District Division B also fell foul of the weather, the game was abandoned with the visitors on 47 for 2 in the 15th over. Shildon stay top, with Cliffe and Barton in hot contention.
Next Saturday the team visits Cockerton with high hopes of maintaining top spot, weather permitting, of course!
