A long-serving local nursery school teacher is set to enjoy retirement at the end of the summer school term.

Mrs Mandy Wallis (AKA Mrs Clark for many years) started working at Victoria Lane Academy back on 5 September 1977 when it was Coundon County Infant School, where she was employed as a nursery nurse.

Mandy is retiring in August but her last day working with the children will be this Friday, 19 July as the school breaks up for summer.

Mandy, who is loved by all at the school, is well known within the village as she has taught many people, including Sara Davies of Dragon’s Den fame, who also attended the nursery.

“We are celebrating on Friday with a party on the field and a picnic,” said a spokesperson for the school.

“She will be a huge miss,” added the spokesperson, “but after 47 years, she has earned some much-needed time to herself as she has given selflessly to the children of Coundon for so long.
