Popular Shildon councillor and current Deputy Mayor of the town, Theda Bannister, sadly passed away last week after succumbing to pneumonia.
Tributes have been paid across the town to Theda, who’s passing – on 9th October at Darlington Memorial Hospital – was sudden but peaceful.
Theda, 75, was a life-long Shildon resident; being born in Auckland Terrace and spending her early years in Sunnydale. She was well known throughout the town, having worked at the Civic Hall from 1974 to 2008, when she retired from her post as Assistant Manageress. She was a staunch socialist and a member of the Labour Party for many years. She became a Labour Town Councillor in December 2008, working hard for the Sunnydale Ward, canvassing tirelessly for her area. She was very proud of Shildon and always tried to get the best for the town.
Her children Claire, Paul, Neil and Lisa, as well as her grandchildren Sophie and Hannah, will sadly miss her ‘happy smiling face and helping hands’.
Shildon Town Clerk, Mick Waterson said “Theda was well respected, both as an employee and latterly as an elected member, and was Deputy Mayor at the time of her death.
“She will be sadly missed by her colleagues and friends at the Town Council”.
