The owners of a popular fishing spot in Shildon have marked their first year in operation with an open day and competition prize giving.
Joanne and Stuart Hackett opened Eden Grange Fishery last year after transforming it from a derelict, unused space into a tranquil fishing paradise.
The couple held a celebration day and prize giving following open matches, which have seen anglers compete every Sunday since February for the biggest catch.
They said, “We would like to thank everyone who came to the open day and who have supported us over our first year.
“We hoped everyone enjoyed the hog roast and the sunshine.”
Mayor of Shildon Shirley Quinn presented the winning cash prize of £100, which was donated by the fishery.
The winner’s title went to Allan Blyth following a catch weighing 95lb.02oz, caught on February 26th.
Sam Cairns received the award on his behalf.
A second £100 will be handed to the next winner which will be announced at the end of October, again the largest weight caught on a Sunday match.
Sunday draws are held at 9.30am and there are weekly open matches on a Tuesday night at 5.30pm.
Eden Grange, which can be found behind Dale Road, has been described as “County Durham’s best kept secret” by many that have visited.
Eden Grange can also be used for clubs to run their own matches.
