Motorists who leave their vehicles with the engines running to warm up in the cold weather are being urged to think again after an opportunist theft in the town.
A worker at a garage in Cockton Hill Road had started his silver Ford Mondeo and left it in front of the garage while he went inside to finish locking up.
Two youths approached from St Andrews Road, got in the car, and drove off at speed. The incident occurred at around 6.00pm on Monday, November 9th, a busy time in the area when many people will have been around and may have noticed what was going on.
It is believed that a woman with a young boy was waiting to use the pedestrian crossing on Cockton Hill Road and police are particularly keen to speak to her.
The youths, who are believed to be aged between 15 and 16 years-old, are said to be around 5.6” and of skinny build. Both wore light grey hoodies, and blue jeans tucked into white socks.
Although they pulled their hoods up prior to the theft, it was seen that one had short cropped dark hair and the other was wearing a lightcoloured baseball cap.
