Oliver Young from Shildon is the Town Crier’s latest paperboy after taking on the round to help save money towards a school trip to Malaysia in 18 months time.
“My school has partnered with World Challenge to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 students to go on a two-week trip to Malaysia,” explained Oliver.
The latest addition to the Crier team is keen to take on other jobs in the community as every student who wants to go on the trip must raise £4,000 each towards the cost. Oliver has also set up a Gofundme page to help him raise the money.
“We will have the opportunity to take part in wildlife and marine conservation and to help out at a school for young children,” he added. “I desperately want to go on this trip as I want to help benefit the community in Malaysia as they are a very impoverished country.
“To participate in this experience I have to single handedly raise £4,000 in 18 months. As I am 14 years of age, this task may be very difficult, particularly with homework, school and other fundraising events, which is why I have set up a Gofundme page.
“All I ask is that you could donate as little or as much as you can to support me to go on this trip. Thank you so much for even reading, I really appreciate it!”
