On Saturday 14 September, Spennymoor Town Band represented the North of England at the National Brass Band Finals of Great Britain which were held in Cheltenham.

They were awarded a creditable 10th place against bands from across England, Wales and Scotland.

Hugh Stephenson said: “We are over the moon with the result – putting the town of Spennymoor on the national map once again.”

Fiona Casewell, the musical director of the band, added: “I was delighted that the band performed so well on the national stage.

“A top ten finish is a great result amongst a strong field of twenty contenders nationwide.

“We were very proud to represent the North of England Region but especially proud to represent our home town!”

The Town and Youth bands are holding their Christmas Concert on Saturday 14 December in the Town Hall.

The beneficiaries of the concert are the Town Mayor’s Charities which are the Spennymoor Learning Library and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Tickets priced at £8 (children free) are available from the Town Hall reception or band members.
