Responding to a local resident, Durham County Council’s Environment, Health and Consumer Protection department, visited a property in Shildon last month to inspect mysterious balls that appeared to be falling from the Shildon sky.
In a letter to the resident, Principal Public Protection Officer, Kirstin Tranter explains that, “the balls appear to be a soil-like substance that does not appear to be the product of a commercial process.”
The resident, who prefers to remain unnamed, says that the balls have been falling on her property for the past six weeks and is interested to know whether any other residents have experienced what the council suspect may be a “meteorological phenomenon, probably attributable to the very hot weather we have been experiencing over the last couple of months.”
In an effort to alleviate concern, the council go on to say that they “have no evidence at this time to suggest that they are more harmful to health than soil in the garden.”
