After the weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Telford Utd, Moors were forced to settle for a point on the road after an eventful evening at Worksop Town on Tuesday, reports Noah Betts.
Goals from Rob Ramshaw, Junior Mondal and Alfie Doherty had Graeme Lee’s men in front three times only for Worksop to answer back each time with a goal from Liam Hughes and a brace from Aaron Martin.
Moors opened the scoring just five minutes in as Ramshaw spotted keeper Tommy Taylor off his line and despatched a perfect lobbed volley from almost 30 yards which found the top corner.
The lead didn’t last long, however, as the hosts grabbed their equaliser just three minutes later. Hughes profited from some madness in the penalty area and smashed home from close range to level the scores.
Moors regained the lead after a great run from Ramshaw saw him drive towards goal, before cutting a ball across to Mondal. The winger made no mistake, firing a shot back across and into the back of Taylor’s net.
Worksop weren’t content with going behind, and should have pegged Moors back again when handball in the area gave Hughes the opportunity to level the scores from the spot, but Brad James guessed right and saved the penalty.
With just seconds of first half stoppage time remaining, the hosts did manage to find their equaliser. Brad James saved the original strike, but in doing so, parried the ball into the path of Aaron Martin, who slotted home low and into the back of the net.
Moors found themselves in front for a third time as substitute, Alfie Doherty, got his name on the score sheet.
A brilliant ball down the line from Olly Dyson found Doherty, who bore down on goal before slotting home his first Moors goal with a tidy finish.
Yet again, the lead didn’t last long. A scramble ensued from a corner as Martin’s flicked header was adjudged to have crossed the line despite the best attempts of Mackenzie Heaney to hook it clear.
An exciting game of football as Moors settled for a point away from home, with focus now shifting to Leamington’s visit to The Brewery Field at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Moors have been handed an away tie at West Auckland Town after the draw for Second Round Qualifying of the FA Cup was completed on Monday lunchtime.
Less than nine miles separate Moors from West Auckland, who overcame Wythenshawe Amateurs 3-1 at the weekend to book their place in this stage of the competition.
West currently lie 13th in the Northern League Division One table having picked up nine points from their first six games of the new campaign.
Last season, Graeme Lee’s men made it to Fourth Round Qualifying after defeating Morpeth Town and Chorley before being knocked out at Alfreton Town.
Second Round Qualifying ties are scheduled to take place on Saturday 13th September with full details available on the Moors website once they are confirmed.
