Moors in the Community enjoyed a successful time as their May Holiday Camps at Spennymoor Youth & Community Centre proved a huge hit with youngsters.
Over 150 children joined the sold-out holiday camps across three days, providing hours of great entertainment. The young people were able to compete in their very own mini-Olympics, as well as take on some Spennymoor Ladies players and their manager, Billy Shackleton, in a football tournament. Perhaps the highlight for the youngsters was when first team assistant manager, Lewis Dickman, called in to enjoy a lively session of dodgeball. The holiday camps were supported by headline sponsors, Esh Group Construction, while McDonald’s provided Happy Meals for the Friday session.
“The holiday camps have gone from strength to strength over the past year and the May camp was our best yet,” said Luke Cowie, the club’s Community Development Manager. “We had such a strong turnout and the fact we sold out across all three days tells me we are doing something right. Now the challenge is to keep on improving for when the next ones come around.” Dickman was thrilled to have been invited along and admitted it’s something he and the players would like to do more often. “This is a brilliant way for me, the staff and the squad to really connect with the local community,” he said. “You could see how much fun the children were having. “It was a real pleasure to be there and get involved and I’m really looking forward to the next one.”
