Moors brush aside title rivals

Spennymoor CC captain, Cameron Dewey, on his way to 129 runs.

Spennymoor surged to the top of the Darlington and District Cricket League Division C table, reports Alexia Jones, on the back of a wonderful innings from returning delinquent Cameron Dewey, shrugging off title rivals Aldbrough St Johns 2nds, to produce a comfortable 124 run win.

With captain Dewey back, his first action was to lose the toss – putting Spennymoor in to bat. However, he soon redeemed himself when opening the bat with Trevor Bark, going to town on the under 16 bowlers in the Aldbrough squad to score an astonishing 129. He was eventually caught out after 93 minutes with the score at 179/1.

This brought Andrew Collingwood to the crease and with his help, Trev managed to reach his first ever 50 for Spennymoor cricket club before he sustained a calf injury, retiring with his score at 50 – a massive achievement for a mighty batsman.

Wickets tumbled as batsman chased quick runs, losing Drew Middleton for 6, James Rhymer for 4 and then Collingwood himself for a well made 58 which took Spennymoor to 254/4.

Duck was then on the menu as Lewis Porter was out for nought, and then Dylan Wallace out caught for 7, making the score 272/6. William Lawton came in to face the last few balls with Lee ‘Usain’ Todd.

Todd came in to bat, after his holiday, and ends on 1 having been run out and providing a hilarious moment where he watched William run past him, not realising he was supposed to have run too. This made the score at the end of Spennymoor’s innings 274/7.

Aldborough started off their innings with D Wilson and A Ripley, with the young lad scoring 1 before getting caught out by Lewis in the 5th ball of their innings off the bowling of the ferret himself, Richard Templeton.

In the next over Spennymoor were gifted another wicket when Dave Wilson pulled his hamstring and was run out for only 1.

Wickets began to tumble as James claimed two before his short break after bowling five overs.

With the next pair of bowlers, Dylan and William, they bowled well with Dylan claiming a wicket in his first over.

This brought up the new ferret specialising in bowling to the lower order in Andy Collingwood – who only bowled 6 overs but made a large impact by taking 3 wickets for only 4 runs.

The final bowler was Alan Jones – wheeled out again to bowl in partnership with his work bessie James Rhymer with James finishing off the game to make it 150 all out.
