Monday Club celebrates 20th anniversary

LilburnA weekly club has celebrated 20 years since its inception.

The Monday Club at Lilburn Community Lounge was formed in 1993 by the Shildon Centre and was run by two volunteers, Mrs Doreen Squince and Mrs Frances Franklin – who still run the club today.

The aim of the club is to provide a social outing every Monday, when the members are picked up from their homes in the Shildon Community Bus.

Monthly trips are held for the ladies, with recent outings including a visit to Locomotion, where Age UK provided lunch and a talk; and a trip to the Little Theatre in Middlesbrough, where they enjoyed a show.

The club is able to enjoy the Community Bus thanks to a donation of £1,500 from former Mayor Gareth Howe’s Mayor’s Fund in 2010. In celebration of the milestone birthday, the Mayor of Shildon’s consort, Shirley Quinn, visited the club.
