Joyce fights her fears for charity

spiderA Shildon resident has, at the age of 62, created a ‘bucket list’ of challenges which she hopes to complete before turning 65.

Joyce Bennett, from Elm Drive, has already gotten a tattoo, which was at the top of her list, but this was an easy task compared to her next undertaking!

Joyce explained, “The next was to face my greatest fear – the one that has been known to bring tears to my eyes… spiders.”

In order to complete the task, Joyce visited ‘Coast to Coast‘ exotic pet store in Darlington on Saturday 9th November, where she plucked up the courage to hold a Chilean Rose Tarantula.

Joyce not only used the experience to help herself overcome her fears, but also to help someone else. She was sponsored by friends and family to raise funds for Shildon youngster Sophie Foster, who is battling cancer.

She said, “I was terrified, but I thought, seeing as though I am facing my biggest fear, why not use it to help a little girl who is facing a much bigger fear than me? And, I must say, being much braver than I am.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who made it possible.

“Watch this space for the next challenge on my list!”
