Mayor’s award for Judith

Shildon Mayor, Cllr Shirley Quinn with Judith Box.

The Mayor’s Award for August was presented by Councillor Shirley Quinn to Mrs Judith Box. Judith is a resident of Shildon and a Slimming World Consultant for the area.

Judith struggled with weight gain after the birth of her daughter and battled for many years. She joined Slimming World and while she successfully lost weight, she also fell in love with the diet plan and became a consultant. Judith has supported thousands of people, providing guidance and education on changing eating habits as well as promoting physical exercise.

One of Judith’s members said: “Judith has supported me in my weight loss journey, and I have now been a target member for 15 years. She is always on hand to offer advice not only during sessions but throughout the week. Before I joined Slimming World, I was overweight, had poor mobility and was in continual joint pain. Judith is not only a consultant, I consider her my close friend. Hers is a vocation, not just a job and I will be forever grateful for the better life I now have”.

The Mayor chose Judith because she is an unsung hero to many. “She does not consider herself as anyone special, but she is,” said Cllr Quinn. “Her inspiration and encouragement along with education and support is appreciated by everyone.”

Cllr Quinn also struggled with her own weight alongside long term health issues. She became a member and has never looked back. Her diabetes is in remission, other associated issues are also under control, and she has so much more energy.

Judith said: “I have won many company awards since I became a consultant, but this award is very special and I’m honoured to have received it.”

During her Year of Office, Cllr Quinn will be presenting an award each month to people within the community who are dedicated to supporting and helping others and making positive changes – often to people who would otherwise go unrecognised.

The awards began in June, with Tracy Stevens of Spectrum Roller Skating Club receiving the inaugural award, while Tracy Chappell of Shildon Alive received July’s award.
