Thirty-year-old Lewis Cope, a Royal Marines Commando from Bishop Auckland, is to attempt the 257km (160 miles) Lycian Way Ultramarathon, which is a 6-stage course over 6 days spanning part of an ancient route across the Turkish Riviera.
Each stage must be completed in a set time or the competitor is disqualified.
Competitors must also carry all of their own kit for the duration of the race.
Lewis is running the route to raise funds and aware-ness for Rock2Recovery, a non-profit organisation founded by former Royal Marines to provide urgent support in the fight against stress to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.
