Residents of Bishop Auckland have expressed their enthusiasm for plans to bring a £100m historical leisure park to the town.
Organisers of the Eleven Arches project at Auckland Castle held a public consultation at The Four Clocks centre recently, and members of the public in attendance were keen to show their support.
The concept behind the project is based on Puy de Fou; the second most visited tourist attraction in France. It will feature a live action night show with large scale historical re-enactments, music and pyrotechnics.
The venture will be the first of its kind in the UK and is part of millionaire philanthropist Jonathan Ruffer’s dream to further enhance County Durham and the North East’s reputation as a national and internation destination, and to contribute to the region’s community and economy through an inspirational celebration of heritage and history.
Hill Benson of Bishop Auckland commented, “It is a wonderful idea and what I like is that it will be a live and vibrant night show.
“It will be different and as it will not be on all the time it will not dominate the area.”
Around 600 volunteer performers are needed for the first phase of the show, which will hopefully open in spring 2016, organisers are already recruiting.
