Bishop Auckland lad, Barry Burrell, held onto fifth place in the championship of the Superstock FIM Cup 1000, where he competed in, Assen, Holland recently.
Barry is currently the top ‘privateer’ rider, as well as being the top British rider in the series.
He finished 9th in the race at Assen, following a difficult thirteen laps of the dutch cicruit.
Barry said, “It was a battle from start to finish with tight racing throughout, every lap I was fighting to hold on to my position. The tyres starting slipping on the rim, meaning I lost my tyre balance, which made the race extremely difficult to negotiate. At the end of the day, I bagged myself 7 points and held onto my championship position, so I am happy with the outcome from a really demanding and tiring race.”
When he is not racing throughout Europe, Barry lives in Gurney Valley. Before becoming a star of the racing scene, Barry attended Bishop Auckland’s King James I school.
Both of his parents are interested in motorsport, and Barry started riding at the age of 16.
Since he began riding, Barry’s natural ability has seen him progress through the classes of motorcycle racing.
His next race in the championship is the Italian round, at Autodromo Nazionale in Monza, on May 10th. This stunning circuit is placed within Monza Park, which belongs to the cities of Monza and Milan. Barry said, “I’m going to Monza in a strong position with my sights set on picking up some good points and the potential of a podium finish.”
