Durham County Council has warned residents about the dangers of littering, after 3 residents were fined recently.
At Bishop Auckland Magistrates Court on Monday, January 4th, Carol Newton of Douthwaite Road, Bishop Auckland, Amanda Maddison of Meadow View, West Auckland, and Gary Bloggs, of Teesdale Walk, Bishop Auckland, were all fined £80 with a victim surcharge of £15 litterers warned after fines for the offence of littering in their absence.
Oliver Sherratt, Head of Direct Services for Durham County Council, said, “Environmental crime is a blight on our neighbourhoods and is unacceptable to residents.
“Whilst prosecutions are a last resort, it is important to realise that, on behalf of local communities, we will not tolerate those that willfully spoil our environment.”
