Dear Editor,
Can I please remind our Labour Incumbents at Town and County Council level, that this year will be the 200th Anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
From March to September, events are going to be held all over our area to celebrate this anniversary.
Railway enthusiasts will be coming from all over the world to visit Shildon and see what is probably the world’s most historic railway town.
And what currently greets them if they visit the historic Daniel Adamson Coach House? Boarded up windows and across the road the boarded up windows on the Timothy Hackworth Public House.
The current situation is that it looks like the Luftwaffe has visited our town and dropped 50 tons of bombs. The boarded up windows on the Coach House provide a poor and deplorable impression, which brings shame on our town. What will visitors think when they come to Shildon and see this!
I trust that if we have the planned carnival, I presume the procession route will not be going past this sorry state of affairs!
Apart from nothing, can any of our Labour incumbents indicate what they are going to do to address this deplorable situation and ensure that visitors from far and wide leave Shildon with a good impression of our town and not photographs of historical buildings with boarded up windows!
While we are on the subject of boarded up houses, what are our incumbents doing regarding the amount of rented houses that now have fly-tipping dumped in the rear of the properties? I took the photograph above on Saturday showing one such example. Absolute disgrace!
May I remind the Labour Party of their commitment to make Shildon a much better place to live in – which appears not to be the case!
I look forward to hearing on what they are going to do on these matters.
