Ferryhill Athletic progressed to the next round of the Washington Aged Peoples Trophy with a solid 2-0 home win against Leam Rangers Reserves on Saturday, reports Fraser Reynolds.
With several players missing through injury and holidays, new signing Matt Agar was brought in to lead the attack and 17-year old Kwesi Attuah was on the bench. Leam Rangers’ offside tactics helped to keep the score down as they were awarded every single marginal decision before Adam Morland raced through for his fourth goal of the season. Callum Watkinson earned the Man of the Match award as he cut in from the wing to beat three men and score a fine goal.
The visitors came back in the second half but Quinn, White and Roddam were solid in defence and Kris Carr, the Latics keeper, was rarely troubled. Morland thought he had claimed a second goal when he tapped in from close range following Watkinson’s cross from the by line, but once again it was ruled out. The offside rule has always been difficult to understand but with so many changes over recent years it is even more confusing for players and officials.
It is back to league duty this Saturday with the visit to Dean Bank of Chester-le-Street United PV, kick-off 2.30 pm.
