In the second of our series of articles on 1st Ferryhill Scout Group we get to meet the Cubs.

Cub Scouts is where the action begins and is for girls and boys aged 8 to 10½ years old. With activities like camping, fire lighting, exploring, and making new friends, they’re an active lot.

Young people can become a Cub Scout shortly before their eighth birthday and move up to Scouts at around 10½ years old. Some Cubs move up from Beavers, but you don’t need to have been a Beaver to enjoy Cubs.

When you join Cubs, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things. Every week, Cubs meet in groups called Cub Packs to take part in lots of interesting and challenging activities – achieving anything they set their minds to and having lots of fun along the way.
Being a Cub is all about growing and learning in small but mighty ways.

Cubs learn by doing. Some of the skills you develop will be practical, like knowing how to cook a delicious meal or giving someone first aid.

For Cubs, excitement and adventure are key. Their programme offers a huge variety of activities in topics such as fitness, global and beliefs; whilst allowing them to be creative and get involved in their local communities.

Cubs are introduced to exciting outdoor skills and take part in adventurous activities.

During their time in the Pack, Cub Scouts will get a chance to try a wide range of different activities as well as going on trips, days out, and on camps.

Earn Badges, get active and embrace the challenge! We believe that young people learn by doing, so our Cub Scout Programme is packed full of amazing activities to engage and challenge Cub Scouts of all abilities.

Cub Scouts are really keen to earn badges and proud to have them on their uniform. They build friendships as they take part in a wide range of fun and adventurous activities that are designed to be interesting and challenging.

Camps and outings are the most memorable events during the year; they are the chance to carry out activities that are not possible at the regular weekly meetings.

1st Ferryhill Cubs meet on Wednesdays from 6pm until 7.30pm during term time.

There are currently apaces available. There is no waiting list and the first month is free.
