One of the headline events in Shildon’s S&DR bicentenary calendar will be taking place on Saturday 17 May from 1pm.
Being held in the world’s oldest Railway Institute, which has been based on Redworth Road since 1912, the event will include full displays and a series of mini talks.
There will be tables showing all the major sites from 1825 – Witton Park, Etherley, St Helen Auckland, Brusselton, New Shildon, Heighington, Darlington, Fighting Cocks, Yarm and Stockton on Tees.
Attendees will also be able to view rarely seen documents, which are usually stored in the Fitzhugh Library at Middleton-in-Teesdale, and for the very first time anywhere, a recently completed model of Yarm Station.
One of the speakers will be S&DR historian and trustee of the Friends of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, Caroline Hardie, who will be giving a talk about the early development of the railway station.
Readers are reminded that the campaign to save the run down Heighington Station buildings is still very much alive and the £5 entry fee will be going to this worthwhile fund. Accompanied children get free admittance.
The club bar will be open for drinks and refreshments from 12.30pm.
