County Councillor Liz Maddison has provided an update on activities.
Congratulations to the team that organised Spennymoor Youth Fest this week. I spoke to a number of organisations that had stalls who said they had received good feedback from the many visitors who attended. There was lots of activities for children and many displays. Food was also provided. The hotdog was delicious – thank you!
It was disappointing that the much anticipated completion of the Leisure Centre has been delayed until September. We have a meeting in August when I hope to provide a further update.
There has been several issues of ASB in the town with bus shelters damaged and unacceptable graffiti in several areas. I am pleased to say that the graffiti has been cleaned off quickly. I have also reported more fly tip on the back road from Middlestone Moor to Byers Green. In both cases further investigative work is being undertaken to identify the culprits.
Our Neighbourhood Warden has been asked to identify the owners of an abandoned car and Livin asked if they could remove flytip from several of their garage areas.
As reported previously, many of our hedges are overgrown and this is causing a lot of frustration with many residents. Most of the affected areas have been identified from our walkabouts and the Clean and Green Team have promised to complete the work as soon as they can. They indicate that they have been hampered by the wet weather of recent months, but also experienced delays in cutting hedges due to the bird nesting season. Livin and Greenbelt have been contacted directly where environmental issues have been identified in their areas.
A walkabout has been organised for the end of this week in Spennymoor area with a number of partner agencies attending as well that will also pick up on some housing related issues.
A date for your diary is Friday, 9th August when the Town Council is hosting Party in the Park, which runs from 6pm until 11pm, with lots of activities for the children and some super bands playing. We hope that everyone will enjoy this popular event and that the weather is kind.
