Hundreds turn out for Christmas Fayre

Ferryhill Town Hall has been adorned with Christmas lights to celebrate the festive season.

Ferryhill Town Council is saying a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported its Christmas Fayre on Friday 29 November.

“A special thank you to all the stallholders at the Christmas market,“ said a spokesperson, “to Turners Fun Fair for providing show rides and catering vehicle, to the town’s primary schools for their fantastic carol singing in the Town Hall garden, and to Glittery Girl face-painter, Dawn Belshaw, to Mr Windbags for providing children’s entertainment, and not forgetting Santa who took time out of his busy schedule to greet local children in a special grotto inside the Town Hall.”

Despite the cold weather conditions hundreds of people turned out for this year’s event and watched on as Brax Macdonald-Morris, from Cleves Cross Primary School, switched on the Town’s Christmas Lights accompanied by Mayor, Cllr Carole Atkinson and Miss County Durham, Ashleigh Craggs.

Mayor Atkinson said: “It was lovely to see the community of Ferryhill come together to enjoy the Christmas Fayre with all its activities. It was great to see that the freezing cold weather didn’t deter people from attending the event, which shows what an amazing community Ferryhill really is.

“A big thank you goes to everyone who participated and attended this year’s event.”

Brax Macdonald-Morris of Cleves Cross Primary School and Miss County Durham, Ashleigh Craggs, helped turn on the Christmas lights.

The Town Council also has additional festivities planned in the run up to Christmas including a Mayor’s Civic Christmas Carol Service at St Luke’s Church on Monday 9 December, starting at 6pm, which will include a performance by Ferryhill Town Band with singing by local children attending Cleves Cross Primary, Broom Cottages Primary and Dean Bank Primary Schools.

Refreshments will be served in the church hall after the service. Everyone is welcome to attend.

On Friday 13 December, schoolchildren attending the town’s primary schools will be taking it in turn to sing Christmas carols in the Town Hall garden. Carol singing will commence at 10am as follows:
10.00am – Cleves Cross Primary School Infants;
10.20am – Cleves Cross Primary School Juniors;
11.00am – Dean Bank Primary School.

Santa will also be making a special visit to the town’s primary schools to hand out selection boxes in the run up to Christmas, and don’t forget to submit your entry into this year’s Christmas Lights Competition.

Entries into the Competition must be received by no later than Friday 13 December.

Winners will be announced on 18 December. To enter please email your name and address together with two photographs of your Christmas lights display (outdoor displays only) to kyounghusband[@]ferryhill[.]gov[.]uk. Winners will receive Asda Vouchers for up to £100.
