Hundreds of residents braved cold weather to see the lighting of Shildon’s Christmas Tree on Friday 6th December.
Santa and his Elf welcomed all the children and made time out of his busy day to meet families before leading the procession from Morrison’s Car Park to the Town Square.
Timothy Hackworth School Choir performed, and the Mayor of Shildon, Councillor Peter Quinn, led the community in the count down to lighting the Christmas tree.
Around at the Civic Hall families were treated to free entertainment, provided by Shildon Town Council, including a disco, Mr Twister, face painting, nail art, cup and saucer ride and Santa in his Grotto.
Morrison’s kindly supported the affair by holding numerous events in store throughout the day and entered into the spirit of the occasion by donning fancy dress and handing out free tasters and sweets to the crowds.
The store also held a tombola, raffle and cake stall, which raised a fantastic £513 for their charity of the year, Save the Children.
A spokesperson for Shildon Town Council commented, “We would like to thank everyone who turned out to support this annual festive event.”
