Hazel completes first GNR for charity

Hazel Johnson proudly displays her medal for completing the Great North Run after raising £1,100 for charity.

Hazel Johnson, Steward at Shildon Railway Institute, decided to take up running towards the end of last year and last Sunday completed her first Great North Run.

Hazel joined Run England- the official England Athletics recreational running project which aims to get the whole nation running – and decided to set herself the challenge of taking part in this year’s Great North Run.

Since advancing with Run England, which has groups based in Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe, Hazel has moved on to join Shildon Running Club.

She collected £1,100 of sponsorship in preparation for her run and will divide the money between Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Hazel was delighted to complete the race in an excellent 2 hours 12 minutes and 55 seconds.
