Shildon Town Bowling Club’s final club competition of the season the (3 wood singles – Round Robin) was played on Saturday 26 August for the Colin Baxter Memorial Trophy. After a well fought day of bowls, dodging the heavy showers of rain, Harry Brown was the eventual winner, narrowly beating Neville Plews in the final.
The South West Durham and South West Durham Veterans Leagues fixtures all have been completed with Shildon Town ending up near mid-table in both leagues and with all to play for next season.
“Bowling is an excellent sport for people of all ages,” said a spokesperson for the club. “It provides fresh air, exercise and friendly company for players. Shildon Bowling Club would make new members very welcome. The ladies section of the club now has very few members and is in danger of closing if new members do not join us very soon.
“Although it is now the end of our season, we will begin again in April next year, holding sessions for practice and learning the sport. Please look out for further information at the start of next season or ring 07835 215426 anytime.”
The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held in The Hub in Hackworth Park on Saturday 21 October at 11am. Anybody who is interested is most welcome.
