Town Mayor, Cllr Liz Maddison and her Consort Cllr Clive Maddison were delighted to join Mrs Hilda McCavanagh on the occasion of her 106th birthday as she celebrated with her family and friends.
The Mayor thanked Hilda for her work in the community and for her many years of service as a member of the Women’s Institute.
Hilda recalled special memories of the many friends she has met, also as a member of the WI’s Friendship Force.
She had also attended night school to learn a few foreign languages to help her better communicate.
Hilda was delighted to have received her 106th and 105th birthday cards from His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla, that were proudly displayed alongside her 100th birthday card from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
In reply to the Mayor’s comment that she was an amazing lady, Hilda commented “I am just like everyone else”.
