Bishop Auckland girl and professional boxer, Hannah Robinson, has raised £1,500 to support Bishop Auckland Rotary Charities by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this month, reports John Yeomans.
Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania stands tall at 19,340ft above sea level. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world.
The expedition was fully self-funded by Hannah but she wanted to raise money through sponsorship for the Rotary Club, a charity close to her heart.
Hannah’s late grandad, David Appleton was deeply passionate about the work of Rotary in the UK and worldwide.
As a former Bishop Auckland Rotary Club President, David embodied the spirit of “Service above Self” and this climb is a tribute to his legacy.
The Rotary Club of Bishop Auckland undertakes incredible initiatives including: taking Pupils from Evergreen School to the panto at the Gala Theatre, Durham; sponsoring young people taking part in the Rotary Young Leaders Award Camp in Upper Teesdale and sponsoring global health initiatives like End Polio Now.
They organise themed food evenings to raise funds for a variety of local projects including The Angel Trust, Woodhouse Close Church Community Projects and the Great Air North Ambulance Service.
They host a diverse programme of speakers throughout the year enriching community knowledge and engagement and they foster international friendships and goodwill through exchanges and connections with Rotarians worldwide.
Every penny raised by Hannah will directly support the work of Bishop Auckland Rotary Club ensuring that the current membership can continue the work which meant so much to her grandad, David Appleton.
