Six members from the North East’s only Kyokushin karate club took their gradings recently. After months of preparation, they were tested on various techniques, strength, speed and stamina.
From the adult class, Chris Campbell and Lee Grint both achieved their orange belts and Michelle Corner her brown.
Special recognition goes to Lee and Kyle Corner who both passed their black belt gradings after being tested over the duration of an entire weekend as part of the club’s annual summer training camp. Their final test was to complete ten full contact fights each.
From the junior class, Hunter Greener gained his orange belt.
“Standards in our club are amongst the best in the country,” said Adam Walker, Chief Instructor. “They have been since we opened 23 years ago. This is why we produce some of the best competitors in Great Britain.
“People of all ages come to train with us for all sorts of reasons. Some want to get fit, some want to lose weight, some want to learn a martial art, some want to learn self-defence, some are being bullied. Whatever the reason is that someone comes to our club, because our training is so diverse and the instruction so good, we can cater for everyone.”
