On Friday 4th July, Bishop Auckland GC welcomed Ryton Golf Club men’s team to the High Plains at Bishop Auckland in the 6th Round of the Team Mail on Sunday Classic Competition.
The first match completed wasn’t good news as current Bishop club champion Paul King lost 4 & 3, however this initial set back didn’t last long as Chris Thompson blitzed his opponent 7 & 5 winning on the 12th hole; a perfect tonic for the other ongoing matches.
Alan Barker, star of stage and screen via the current trilby tour being shown on Sky TV, won his match 2 & 1, a solid performance, followed by Mark Walker winning his match 2 up. However, taking all into account, the man-of-the-match performance came from two-time previous club champion Graham Milne, who worked really hard to ensure the 4 – 1 victory to Bishops by beating Durham County player Shaun Embleton 2 up.
All in all a fantastic evening’s work that puts Bishops in the hat for round 7.
