Giant Sandpit brings beach to Shildon

Children and their families enjoyed the opening of the giant sandpit in Hackworth Park last week.

Children from Jubilee Fields Play Group and Byerley Road Preschool attended the official opening of the Giant Sandpit in Hackworth Park last week.

“The children were joined by families who had a lovely afternoon,” said a spokesperson for Shildon Town Council, who added their thanks to PPG Industries, The Original Factory Shop and Shildon Alive. “Thanks also to former Mayor, Cllr Hannah Hanratty for the buckets, spades, drinks, and free ice creams,” they said. Children also enjoyed meeting local police and their mascot.

The event was made possible through funding support from Shildon County Councillors, Shirley Quinn, Samantha Townsend and Matt Johnson from the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Neighbourhood Budgets via the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership, with additional funding from Shildon Town Council.
