Jubilee parkrun in Spennymoor goes from strength to strength. Runners, joggers and walkers come from all over the UK and abroad to get their ‘J’ on their quest to fill their parkrun alphabet or just simply to enjoy our beautiful park.
The route itself is three and a half times round the park with mixture of paths and grass, twists and turns. It is certainly one of the most picturesque parkruns with the flower beds so beautifully done. Parkrun is for everyone! You can run, jog, walk, skip or dance around the park. You can also join the volunteers if you don’t wish to take part on the run.
They have families joining in the fun every Saturday both as volunteers or participants. Laura and Ian live locally and became involved at its initial setup. Laura’s family, three generations, enjoy volunteering and says the parkrun has a great sense of community, welcoming locals, and visitors alike.
David and Heather are new residents to the area and describe Jubilee parkrun as a super way to meet new people and have been made very welcome. It is also helping them both on their health and fitness journey, parkrun on a Saturday morning is a perfect start to the weekend.
On Saturday June 4 at 9am, to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, they are holding a special event in Jubilee Park Spennymoor.
A spokesperson said: “The park will be decorated with flags and bunting, our volunteers will be suitably decked out in red, white and blue and there will be music and singing! There will also be a park party to follow. Everyone is welcome and it is free. “
