New wheelbarrows have kept the Shildon Community Garden rolling thanks to Shildon Town Council.
With garden users increasing all the time, and a waiting list for raised beds growing, the garden’s one old, rusted, wheelbarrow was quite simply not up to the job.
Revd. David from St John’s Church approached the Town Council asking if they could help and, with the benefit of the garden beginning to be felt across the community, councillors were delighted to oblige.
The new barrows are available for use to all the users of the garden including All Saint’s Scouts, Thornhill Primary School and many private individuals.
Revd. David commented, “Gardening is a community activity and one that all ages can get involved in. The council’s support has been a huge encouragement to everyone involved and a letter to say thank you has been sent.”
Paula Nelson, garden coordinator, added “This project is for everyone, and the council, in representing the people of Shildon, have helped everyone with this provision, so thank you.”
