Kirk Merrington Craft Makers are currently busy stitching over 100 metres of scarves, which will be joined together and used to wrap Kirk Merrington Community Centre during their Lewy Body Craft Fair on Saturday 5 October.
Members are hoping to raise awareness of this very debilitating form of dementia and to raise funds for the Lewy Body Society, one stitch at a time.
“After our scarf wrap, the scarves will wing their way to Manchester,” said a spokesperson, “to join thousands more and be used to wrap Central Hall Manchester on Thursday 17 October, to make ‘a Scarf for Lewy’.
“This huge event will hopefully raise national awareness of the condition.
After the Manchester event the scarves will be separated and donated to various homeless charities throughout the country.
The scarf wrap takes place at 11.45am ahead of the free craft fair which opens at 12 noon and runs until 4pm. The fair is cash sales only.
“Come along and take the opportunity to look round our public and craft club stalls” added the spokesperson, “to buy our many and varied crafted items, grab a cuppa and home made bake, learn about Lewy Body Dementia at our information stand and try your luck with our tombola and raffle .
“It will be a great afternoon and a chance to kickstart your Halloween and Christmas shopping.”
