The launch of a ‘Friends of St Anne’s’ group took place recently, which was planned to coincide with World Book Day. The children, who made a huge effort to look fantastic by dressing as their favourite book character, took part in a sponsored readathon and held an extreme reading competition. The event was a huge success, raising £260.
The Friends of St Anne’s is essentially a PTA (Parent Teachers Association) – a formal organisation composed of parents and staff, to facilitate parental participation in school life. As a group, their aim is to help St. Anne’s fund exciting and educational ventures, for example new reading corners for the classrooms; in essence to lend a helping hand to enable the children to experience and benefit from such little extras. Over the next few months, exciting and creative events are planned, aimed at raising money for a school disco, including ‘Bags2School’ – a textile recycling scheme, half-termly coffee afternoons, Fairtrade Fridays, an Easter egg competition and pot painting for Father’s Day, to name but a few!
