After almost three years of planning and fundraising, construction of a long-awaited extension began recently at Woodhouse Close Church to accommodate the many foodbank donations in a safe working environment, writes the church’s property steward, Peter Hall.
However, a few days after the work started, a theft of over 12 insulation sheets took place on Tuesday 27 September from the site at around 11pm.
CCTV shows a person carrying individual sheets to a house on the estate, taking over an hour to do this.
The theft has left the many volunteers shocked as over the last twelve years, the foodbank has supported many hundreds of people and families in the community and surrounding areas.
As winter approaches and the cost of living crisis is not getting any easier, the centre is already seeing an increased demand for help. Hopefully the police will be able to trace the culprit.
The centre receives much support from all our local supermarkets and many individual donations, however due to us all feeling the pinch, a drop in donations has been noticed lately.
