Ferryhill Town Band had a good day at the Miners Gala back in July, even though we all got a little damp, writes Brian Chaplin.
It was the last time front row cornet player, Laura Wallace played for the band before leaving for university. We wish her well in her studies and hope to see her during the holidays.
We have signed 17-year-old Daisy Burlison as principle cornet player. She is attending 6th form in Durham and started playing for us in July.
We would like to take the opportunity and thank Julie Hepburn for taking the principle chair and help steer the band to some cracking results over the last couple of years.
Our bass trombone player, Daniel King, attended his first national children’s brass band summer workshop. His tutors over this week included Brett Baker, principle trombone with the world famous Black Dyke Band.
The week-long course included ensemble with the trombone section and full band rehearsals. I am very confident that Daniel will make it into the top ranking brass bands.
The band has a busy Christmas schedule approaching, starting with a concert at St Luke’s Church, Ferryhill, on the 25th November. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children.
