Ferryhill School are yet again celebrating their students’ GCSE achievements this summer, writes Teacher of Business, Mr Wallace.
Our Year 11 pupils have shown incredible hard work, resilience, and ambition, and we could not be more proud of what they have accomplished.
The results mark an important milestone in our students’ journeys.
Whether moving on to college, apprenticeships, or training, they are leaving us well prepared for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
Behind every grade lies a personal story of success: students who achieved the very highest marks, and others who exceeded their own expectations through steady progress and perseverance.
Every one of these stories is a reason for celebration.
Our students have come through immense challenges in recent years and have truly done themselves proud.
They have shown resilience, determination, and a willingness to keep going even when times were tough. Crucially, the unwavering support of parents and carers has helped them to be their very best selves.
These results are a reflection of what can be achieved when students, staff, and families work together with a shared commitment to success.
Among the many success stories this year is Ben Dargue, who is going on to study Electrical Engineering at New College Durham. Reflecting on his results, Ben said: “I’m buzzing with my results! I got a grade 6 in English Literature when I was predicted a grade 4. I am most proud of the grade 9 I got in Photography and the grade 7 in History.”
Leon Burns is also celebrating strong results, achieving a set of solid grades and distinctions. Leon shared: “I am very proud of myself and I’ve done myself proud with all my results. All of them have been a grade 5 or 6 and I have also got two Level 2 Distinctions, which means when I am 18 I will finally be able to apply for the Speed Bird Pilot Academy.”
Another proud moment came for Jude Tracey, who achieved outstanding results and is moving on to an apprenticeship with Gestamp. Jude said: “I got a Grade 9 in Sport and I really wasn’t expecting that. I worked really hard in English and got a grade 5. I was really pleased.”
Jayden Wilkinson is also celebrating after securing excellent grades. He said: “I am over the moon with my results.” Jayden will be going on to study A-level Business and Accountancy, alongside BTEC Sport, at Durham Sixth Form.
Alfie Bird achieved a milestone he is particularly proud of: a Grade 5 in Maths. Alfie said: “I struggled all the way through but eventually got a Grade 5, which I’m very happy about.”
He will go on to study Carpentry and Joinery at New College Durham.
Joe I’Anson was incredibly pleased with his results and will now go on to study electrical installation at New College Durham. He said he is ‘absolutely buzzing over maths and English’ where he got grade 4s.
At Ferryhill School, we are incredibly proud of every single student.
Each one has worked with determination and resilience to achieve their goals, and we look forward to seeing them continue to succeed in the years ahead.
Deputy Headteacher, Miss Anderson said: “We could not be prouder of our Year 11 students.
“They have faced challenges with real grit and determination, and so many of them have worked tirelessly to achieve their success.
“Their hard work has truly paid off. Well done, you all have such bright futures ahead.”
Mrs Monaghan, Assistant Headteacher leading on Raising Achievement added: “I am incredibly proud of our students and of the staff who have supported them.
“The positive progress this year shows that the routines we have put in place, from curriculum planning to targeted intervention and pastoral care, are paying off.
“Most of all, it reflects the effort our young people have made every day. Well done to the class of 2025, and thank you to families for your continued support.”
