The Chilton community, along with visitors from further afield, turned up en-masse to the Annual Chilton Show at the Miners Welfare Recreation Ground and a great time was had by all, reports Sue Reece.
Furthermore, the weather held, much to everyone’s relief.
There were craft and horticultural classes with entrants from all ages, town criers, pipers, music from Brenda Collins, Falconry Days displays, Leon’s Exotic Animals, True Trades blacksmith demonstrations, free face painting, tombola’s and raft of stalls and vendors.
New to this year and extremely popular were RMP Bike Displays, sponsored by the Banks Community Fund, who put on a series of demonstrations to launch the Boards, Bikes and Brushes: Chilton Young Peoples Project, Chi Taekwondo who are looking re-establish the martial arts club in the town and Bishop FM broadcasting live from the main marquee.
Chilton Town Council, the event organisers, would like to thank all those who attended and supported the event including Chilton Scout Group, Great Aycliffe Rotary, Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group, St John’s Ambulance, NERAMS and the Police.
Special thanks go to the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make it happen and the judges who put themselves forward for a very difficult task.
We were delighted to be joined by Neil Schneider DL who joined the judging of the horticultural and craft classes plus the ever-popular Chilton Dog Show.
Neil thanked the Mayor and Council for the opportunity to be part of the summer fayre stating: “What a great well organised and fun event.
“There are some amazing people and organisations doing some amazing things for the community of which you all should be very very proud.”

As part of the Chi Taekwondo group it was great to get kids and youngsters(of all ages) involved and just having fun, whether kicking or punching or jumping, it was about having a try… No teamwork, no we, no level, no pressure, no you should…..
