The games have been coming thick and fast this month, reports Chris Orton, and for Ferryhill’s fourth game of April, New Durham AFC were welcomed to Dean Bank Park for the reverse fixture, which led to an 8-0 victory to Athletic at Bowburn earlier in the season.
After five consecutive victories, Ferryhill were hoping to continue their winning run in order to finish the season as high as possible in the table.
And a sixth win in a row was acheived in the Ferryhill sun, despite the first half being a turgid affair with little in the way of chances for either side.
Matty Ashcroft-Brown shot over for Ferryhill after quarter of an hour, with Will Houlahan firing wide shortly after.
The next chance for the home side came when Shane Todd put the ball wide with fifteen minutes left, but he redeemed himself very soon after with a belter of a volley that ended up in the back of the net.
Athletic had stepped up a gear as the half reached its conclusion, with it ending 1-0.
After the restart things were a different affair altogether.
New Durham offered little and Ferryhill had a couple of chances when Jay White’s shot hit the keeper and Kieron Richardson shot wide.
A somewhat flat game livened up when Athletic got going, with Richardson seeming to fly through the air to fire home an impressive goal.
He got his second and Ferryhill’s third soon after when he rolled the ball into an empty net, ahead of an absent New Durham defence.
Jay Roddam headed over, with Richardson getting another hat-trick after he dispossessed the keeper and planted the ball into the goal.
Ferryhill were completely dominant, seeing off New Durham with ease. Richardson almost got his fourth just before the end, but the score at full-time was 4-0.
The ever-impressive Jay White was awarded man of the match.
Athletic now have a spell off before their final four games, with the next match coming in midweek on 23 April, away to promotion contenders Barnard Castle. Kick-off time at Tensfield is 6.45pm.
